California Rural Legal Assistance

California Rural Legal Assistance (CRLA) envisions a state where all people are treated with dignity and their fundamental rights are respected. CRLA serves a wide array of low-income individuals residing in over 22 California counties with free services related to employment, housing, education, public benefits, and domestic violence, among other problems, plus specialized programs that focus on services for farmworker populations. CRLA clients also include individuals with disabilities, immigrant populations, school children, lesbian/gay/bisexual and transgender populations, seniors, and individuals with limited English proficiency.

Legal Services for Seniors 

LSS provides free legal services for people age 60 or over; there is no income limit to qualify for services though they focus first on those with the greatest legal, economic, and social need. LSS can help with financial & elder abuse, Social Security, SSI and private pension problems, health care, Medicare, Medi-Cal & private health insurance problems, housing rights and landlord/tenant disputes, Advanced Health Care Directives and long-term care problems, simple wills, consumer and debt collection problems, guardianships, and many more issues.

Watsonville Law Center  

The Watsonville Law Center (WLC) provides free legal services to low-income individuals. WLC focuses on addressing issues related to worker rights, consumer protection and barriers to employment. WLC delivers services through advice clinics, one on one consultations, and direct representation. Through its five projects: the Agricultural Workers’ Access to Health (AWAHP), Barriers to Employment, Economic Justice, Language Access to the Court, and the Consumer Protection Projects, WLC has assisted thousands of community members.

Lyceum of Monterey High School Mock Trial Program

This program is always seeking attorney volunteers to help coach high school student participants, sit as judges for the competitive mock trials, and other services. To learn more about volunteering, contact Lyceum directly by phone or email.

Rancho Cielo Youth Campus

The Rancho Cielo Youth Campus is a comprehensive learning and social services center for underserved youth in Monterey County. Established in 2000, it is a California 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Residing on 100 acres and encompassing two lakes, stables and a cultivated garden, Rancho Cielo is also a restored piece of Salinas Valley natural history. With the creative partnerships forged between local community, educational and law enforcement agencies, Rancho Cielo aims to enrich the lives of young people. The United Way Monterey County

The United Way Monterey County operates an online Volunteer Center, which allows would-be volunteers to search for organizations that align with their interests. Many organizations also post Board openings and are eager to have legal professionals on their Boards.
